hThe aspirate  “h”  at the beginning of a word blocks the liaison and the elision.

We do not make  the liaison: eg . vous hurlez, des haricots, des hangars .

Here, though the initial sound is a vowel, we do not make the liaison between the pronoun or article and the word that follows .

We  do not make the  elision  : le haricot, le hangar, le hurlement, la honte .

Here, the article followed by a word that begins with  vowel sound is not apostrophized and [ h] behaves like a consonant.

The mute “h”  has no role from the point of view of pronunciation. Contrary to the aspirate “h” who has the function of a consonant and does not allow for elision and liaison, h muta admits elision and liaison.

Es : les  hôpitaux, vous͜ habitez, les͜ hommes

Es: l’homme, l’hebdomadaire, l’harmonie
